Apple’s New iPhones Offer Faster Wired Charging

The newly unveiled iPhone 16 series boasts a significant improvement in wired charging speeds. According to a Chinese certification revealed on Weibo, the iPhone 16 models can charge up to 50 percent faster than their predecessors when using a USB-C connection. The latest iPhones are capable of supporting wired fast charging up to 45W.

This certification, provided by the China Quality Certification Centre and shared on X by user ShrimpApplePro, indicates that the iPhone 16 models were tested at 5-15 volts and 3 amps, achieving a maximum of 45W. In comparison, the iPhone 15 series was limited to 29W charging. As 9To5Mac points out, Apple often does not highlight improvements in wired charging in its announcements.

The 45W charging capability of the iPhone 16 surpasses the Google Pixel 9’s 27W (and 37W for the Pixel 9 Pro XL) and matches the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, these figures are still modest compared to the 240W-plus fast charging offered by some Chinese brands, such as Realme’s upcoming 320W technology.

In addition to faster wired charging, the latest iPhones support improved wireless charging speeds. MagSafe can now deliver up to 25W with a 30W power adapter, an upgrade from the previous 15W limit and the Qi2 standard.
